OMFORMA is a versatile hanging rail system that repurposes colourful laminated plywood offcuts from PLYKEA. Utilising PLYKEA’s CNC-cut J-profile kitchen door handles, Josh has transformed them into functional hanging system for shelving and hooks for adaptable storage.

PLYKEA is known for its custom laminated plywood fronts, designed to upgrade IKEA kitchen carcasses into high-end modular kitchens. When Josh began this project, his goal was to create a complementary product to integrate into PLYKEA's kitchen system.

The idea of a hanging rail emerged as a way to extend PLYKEA’s modular spirit. During his ethos and manufacturing exploration of the brand, Josh discovered a leftover engraved handle in a pile of offcuts which sparked the concept of transforming an existing element into an additional function. By reimagining the handle’s profile, he developed a rail that accommodates interchangeable components, allowing users to personalise their storage through placement, size, and colour.

The result is OMFORMA, which fittingly means “to reshape” in Swedish a nod to both its function and PLYKEA's use of IKEA kitchen components. From this concept, Josh designed a set of modular hooks: ENDA - a single hook for simple hanging, DUBBEL - a double hook for additional hanging, and HUGG - a grab-style hook designed to support shelves.
