BIOGRAPHY
Joshua Pinches is a London-based Product and Furniture Designer specialising in digital making. Josh creates design which is playful, industrial and minimalistic, driven by a mission to make everyday objects empowering, accessible, and fun. His work explores how digital technologies can simplify manufacturing, reduce carbon footprint, and use customisation and interaction as a means to form personal identity.
Josh’s practice is rooted in a childhood obsession with DIY. Since crafting his first piece of furniture at the age of 16, he has been testing the boundaries of design. His journey has led him to Kingston School of Art exposed to the “learning through making” culture, and later to the Netherlands interning at Piet Hein Eek, where he has been refining his philosophy through the practice of manufacturing and sustainability. Having exhibited at Clerkenwell Design Week and with upcoming features in the Kingston School of Art Degree Show, New Designers and the UK’s top design events Shoreditch Design Week and London Design Week, Josh is evolving into a designer focused on digital making.
Today Josh's mission is focused on creating digital guides and content in the aim to transform users into co-creators. Growing as a dyslexic, traditional learning felt difficult for Josh, but design was the perfect key for self expression and thinking sustainably. For Josh, design isn’t just about the finished product, he wants to empower others to express themselves and overcome traditional barriers of creativity, in the way it has done for him.

OUTSIDE THE DESIGN WORLD
Whenever Josh is not designing here is what he gets up to:
. Music - I love hip-hop music. Since I was young I have been bought up listening to classic 80s and 90s hip-hop. Some of my favourite artists are the Beastie Boys, Mac Miller, and BROCKHAMPTON.
. Cycling - I cycle everywhere. No car. No bus. Just cycling. I love the freedom that it gives me.
. Geography - I enjoy watching documentaries and learning about the world around me. I've been trying to learn all the flags of the world. As of now I can name around 180!
. Football - I am an avid Liverpool fan and watch the highlights on Match of the Day. (Sorry any Manchester United fans out there).
