The FLORA FAN is a playful modern table fan showcasing its customisable blades, simplicity of manufacture and integration into domestic interiors.

Traditional fans are dull in colour, bulky and only used during warmer months. According to Materials Focus in 2023, 880 million electrical items of all kinds are lying unused in UK homes. This makes it inconvenient not only for storage but fans becoming a part of an interior space.

Challenging ordinary fans, my fan prioritises customisation, minimalism, and playfulness, designed for both cooling and decor removing the need for storage, and reframing the norm from a seasonal to daily use product. Taking a domestic aesthetic approach and reducing the number of components, my design takes on a sleeker, and homely feel without sacrificing its industrial roots. The minimalist cage free design removes visual noise and makes maintenance easier to operate. The foam blades are celebrated through customisation of style and colour for a personal touch and secured through a clamping mechanism in the blade hub using threads. The fans power and speed changing mechanism is operated through a single potentiometer promoting minimal and intuitive interaction.
